Back in 2001 Sacramento Koi became convinced that there was a real need for a new, quality built, koi pond bead filter. A filter that would provide excellent water quality, was built to last, and was as easy to maintain as possible. In fact it’s so easy to maintain, we made a video to show it can be done in under 5 minutes a week. Just see the video to the right.
Today’s Advantage Bead Filter is the culmination of both the initial research that went into building our first bead filter, and the 10 years of continual research and refining since then. The result is a filter that performs so well that it is the only bead filter on the market today that comes with a written, no questions asked, “One Year Customer Satisfaction Guarantee”. If it didn’t out perform every filter on the market, we couldn’t make that offer.If you have any questions regarding our satisfaction guarantee, see the following page or give us a call at 916-652-4231.

Built by Sacramento Koi especially for the Advantage bead filter. This blower provides a powerful stream of air inside the filter during backwashing to assist in separating the waste from the bead media. This blower is to be turned on only during the backwashing of the bead filter and never to be used while the water is running. Blower comes standard with a 4 foot, 110 volt cord along with a weather proof switch and cover plate mounted directly onto the blower.
This is a ball valve and a check valve combination which is installed directly below the blower. The purpose of this assembly is to protect the blower from any chance of water leaking back into the blower and damaging it. The ball valve is to be opened and closed when operating the blower. The check valve serves as a back up incase the ball valve is not closed all the way.
This valve allows you to select which of 6 different modes you wish the filter to perform in.
A large 2 inch sight glass provides an easy visual aid to see when the bead filter waste water becomes clear during back-washing, indicating the filter media is clean. Held together with 4 stainless steel threaded rods and rubber gaskets which allows for easy maintenance if algae begins to form in the clear section of the sight glass.
This valve is used to remove any debris that might accumulate at the bottom of the bead filter. This drain is also helpful in draining water from tank during winterization of filter. This valve is able to be rebuilt without being removed from filter in the event it ever began to leak. Caution: Leaving this drain open too long may allow some bead media to escape.
Advantage 10 Bead Filter uses a 1 inch ball valve
Advantage 15 Bead Filter uses an 1.5 inch ball valve
Cast in high strength clear Isoplast with a slight yellow color to reduce algae buildup. This lid allows you to see inside the bead filter during the backwashing cycle to make sure the bead filter media is being cleaned properly. These lids are for use only on the Advantage bead filter.
Rated for pressures up to 50 PSI, these tanks are built out of rigid, heavy duty fiberglass to assure a lifetime of service. The bulkhead fittings on the tank have been molded in a special “high strength reinforced” material just for the Advantage Bead Filter.
Over an 8 year period, we tested a number of bead materials to finally get the perfect bead media for the Advantage bead filter. There were 3 different criteria that we had to work with;
We feel we have been able to accomplish everything we set out to do with our media. The Advantage bead filter is able to mechanically filter water down to 27 microns while at the same time remove all ammonia and nitrites from the water. Note that these beads will not break down and do not need to be replaced on a regular basis. We have found that the older the beads are, the better they perform. One key as to why the Advantage bead filter works so well is its patented internal head design. We designed our head so that 70% of the water flow is directed straight through the filter head toward the bottom of the bead filter. This differs from most other filters that require that all the water make a sudden 90 degree turn though the head slots before entering the filter body. This design accomplishes the following:
All the plumbing throughout the bead filter, from the internal plumbing to the multiport head, is 2″ schedule 40 DWV PVC rated for pressures north of 200 psi. The 2″ plumbing, coupled with the smooth internal plumbing design, gives the Advantage Bead Filter one of the lowest head pressure of any bead filter tested.
